Summary

The National Defense University is recruiting for a Dean of Faculty and Academic Programs for the College of Information and CyberSpace (CIC.) The Dean is principally responsible to the VP-AA/Provost and their Component Head for the management and governance of the academic mission and their respective academic/research programs. Serves as the executive head of the
faculty and as chief academic officer, in collaboration with the Component Head, with responsibility for the development, implementation and assessment of its college's strategic plan.

The CIC serves as the Department of Defense's (DoD's) principal educational resource for the Services, the Joint Staff, the DoD Chief Information Officer (CIO), and the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Policy (OSD(P)) senior staffs for senior-level education regarding information and cyberspace strategy, policy, and warfare. As such, the CIC is responsible for a number of programs associated with leveraging information and information technology to achieve strategic objectives through cyberspace capabilities.

NDU develops joint warfighters and other national security leaders through rigorous academics, research and engagement to serve the common defense.

This is a Title 10 Excepted Service Appointment. Appointment is not to exceed 3 years with the possibility for extension.


Responsibilities

Principal academic and policy adviser to the VP-AA/Provost and Component Head on all matters pertaining to the curriculum, accreditation, and faculty of their associated academic programs.

Provides the leadership, management, and expertise necessary to accomplish University-wide and component: strategic and operational academic program planning and assessment;

Ensures a comprehensive college oversight policy and assessment program to deliver an effective, high quality, graduate-level academic program.

Leads a rigorous process of planning and assessing the curriculum to ensure: it remains relevant to the national security environment; compliant with governing commissions, the curriculum appropriately reflects the mission of College; and is pedagogically sound.

Serves as an academic and educational advisor on University Dean's Council, the College Academic Policy Council (APC) and other governance councils

Teaches core, concentration, or elective courses as needed to maintain contact with College courses, classrooms, and students, and to support delivery of the College curriculum.

Maintains currency, expertise, and professional stature in the field through research and publication of scholarly work.
