Relevant Professional Experience: 
Mr. Wessling is currently serving with the NDU Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Academy on a Joint Duty Assignment from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA).  Mr. Wessling has extensive experience in federal budgeting and financial management activities, with a heavy emphasis on the Intelligence Community and Department of Defense.  Before joining NDU, he served as the NGA Chief Financial Executive where he was responsible for overseeing and managing all financial management activities for the agency.  Prior senior executive positions at NGA included serving as the Deputy CFE, Director of Finance and Director of Resource Management.  Mr. Wessling entered the senior executive service with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) in 2006 and successively served as the Group Chief of the IC CFO’s Domestic Programs, the Chief of Staff for the Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Policy, Plans and Requirements, and the National Counterproliferation Center (NCPC) Deputy Director for Resource Management and Investment.  Mr. Wessling began his civil service career as a senior program/budget analyst for the IC Community Management Staff.  Prior to joining the civil service, Mr. Wessling served over 14 years active duty as a naval intelligence officer where he held a wide variety of operational and staff positions, including assignments at-sea, overseas, and at the Pentagon.  He was a program analyst for the Office of the Secretary of Defense Program Analysis and Evaluation (OSD/PA&E).  At the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center, he led the intelligence training department and also led operational and technical assessments of intelligence collection, exploitation and dissemination systems.  In other military assignments he served as an imagery collection manager, fleet support and intelligence watch officer, special assistant to a senior flag officer, and a squadron intelligence officer.  Mr. Wessling served another 10 years with the U.S. Naval Reserve before retiring in 2014.   In addition to his academic credentials, he has earned DoD Financial Management Level 3 certification and is a Certified Defense Financial Manager with the Acquisition specialty (CDFM-A).  He currently resides in Northern Virginia and is married with three adult children.
