iCollege Hosts 30 High School Students for Federal IT Job Shadow Day

On Friday, April 12, 2013, NDU iCollege faculty and staff members hosted local high schoolers during t he annual Federal IT Job Shadow Day, sponsored by the Federal Government Chief Information Officer (CIO) Council . This program is designed to educate and engage high school students in the variety of IT careers in the Federal Government. While at NDU, s tudents ha d the opportunity to shadow Federal IT professionals at the college and learn about the innovative work being done in the cyber education field to improve transparency, communication, and cost efficienc y for the American people . The NDU iCollege hosted 30 students from Benjamin Banneker Academic High School for the sixth consecutive year.

The students enjoyed a day filled with IT-oriented activities that enabled the m to gain insight into technology capabilities that the Federal Government leverages to deliver services to citizens. Students spoke to faculty members about advances in the cyber arena and had a chance for hands-on experience in the college's Infrastructure Protection (aka SCADA) and Attack & Defend laboratories, which was the highlight of their day-long visit. Assistant Dean for Curriculum, Dr. Cassandra Lewis, and faculty member, Stan Boddie, hosted the visit, along with support from many other iCollege members.
