Mr. Gravatt’s career began at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center where he provided systems engineering support for ground system development and advanced to a position of management over a team of 65 software developers who provided development and sustaining engineering for over 200 applications. He spent two years during the "dotcom boom" as a consultant managing and developing commercial web sites and applications. Mr. Gravatt served as the Mayor of the Town of Landover Hills, Maryland (1991-1995) and as an Adjunct Professor at George Mason University (2004-2008) where he taught a Graduate-level course in Software Engineering for the World Wide Web. After serving as an Associate Professor at the iCollege of the National Defense University for one year, Mr. Gravatt was appointed as the Chair of the Systems and Technology Department where he was responsible for the IT Project Management, the Enterprise Architecture, and the Chief Technology Officer curriculum.
In July of 2014, Mr. Gravatt joined the Center for Technology and National Security Policy. His in-depth knowledge of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) was used to conduct research in the areas of social media, big data, the deep web, and simulations.
In April of 2015, Mr. Gravatt returned to the iCollege as a Professor of Practice and leads the Data Analytics and Visualization and the Emerging Information and Technology elective concentrations.
