Academic Advising
Students admitted to any CIC academic program are assigned to the colleges academic advisor Nakia Logan. Advisors assist students to plan a course of study and answer questions about program requirements.
Admission Into Multiple Academic Programs
Students may apply for and be admitted to more than one CIC academic program at a time.
Program Completion Time Limit
Certificate programs: All coursework applied toward a certificate must be completed within the four years
before the termination of the program.
Master of Science (M.S.) Degree program: All coursework applied toward a M.S. Degree must be completed within the previous seven years.
Students must successfully complete at least one course every 12 months to maintain active status in the program.
Applying Coursework Earned Prior to Program Admission
Certificate Program Participants. If a participant has completed CIC coursework under another program, he or she may apply eligible courses to another certificate program. Eligible courses are those that directly apply to a program’s requirements. Courses taken for a grade of Audit (AU) or Professional Development (PD) are not eligible. All coursework applied toward a certificate must be completed within the previous four years.
Masters of Science Program Participants. If a participant has completed CIC coursework under another program, he or she may apply eligible courses to the Master of Science Degree program. Eligible courses are those that directly apply to the Master of Science Degree requirements. Courses taken for a grade of Audit (AU) or Professional Development (PD) are not eligible. All coursework applied toward a M.S. degree must be completed within the previous seven years.
Starting in July 1, 2013, a new policy will take effect for newMasters of Science Program Participants.
Current or returning CIC students may apply a maximum of 24 credit hours ( 8 Courses) of eligible CIC course work toward the Government Information Leadership Master of Science degree. All course work must have been taken within seven years of the award of the degree.
Students who are accepted into the program by July 1 will be grandfathered under the existing policy which holds no limit to how many CIC credits can be transferred to the GIL Master program.
Program Actions
Leave of Absence. Students may apply for a leave of absence due to exceptional circumstances. Application for a leave must be requested letter of request to the Assistant Dean of Curriculum. The letter should provide a detailed explanation of the circumstances leading to the request and a justification of the time requested. Application for a leave of absence may be made up to one academic year. The request must be approved by the student's advisor prior to submission to the Assistant Dean. An approved leave of absence will stop the student's program completion timeline.
Program Withdrawal. Students who wish to end their participation in an NDU CIC program may submit a written request to the Office of Student Services. The request should state the student’s name, e-mail address (if different than on record), program(s) from which the student wishes to withdraw, and a brief justification
statement. Requests may be e-mailed to CICOSS@ndu.edu. Confirmation of withdrawal will be provided by e- mail.
Dismissal. The NDU CIC may drop students from a program for a number of reasons that include, but are not limited to, unsatisfactory academic performance and/ or upon the decision of the Academic Review Board. Reinstatement. Students who wish to request reinstatement must reapply. The NDU CIC may grant reinstatement to a program on a case-by-case basis. Once eligibility is reviewed, it will be determined which previous courses, if any, may apply to the program of study.
Requirements for Continued Enrollment
Students enrolled at the NDU CIC must maintain satisfactory progress by completing at least one course every 12 months and maintaining a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Students are expected to achieve a satisfactory grade (A, A-, B+, B) in all coursework attempted for academic credit.
Students will be automatically placed on probation upon receiving one (1) course grade of F and/or whenever his or her cumulative GPA falls below 3.0. A student on probation must attend a mandatory counseling session with their advisor, and if applicable, raise the GPA to a 3.0 at a timeline or credit load defined by the Assistant Dean.
Students who receive a second course grade of F and/or who fail to raise their GPA within the prescribed timeline or credit load will be dismissed from the college.
