On Friday 17 December 2021, the President of the National Defense University, Lieutenant General Michael Plehn, announced Dr. Cassandra C. Lewis would serve as the full-time permanent Chancellor of the College of Information and Cyberspace (CIC). The announcement was made at the CIC Holiday Party, held on historic Fort McNair in Washington, DC.
This news comes after more than three years of CIC without a full-time Chancellor, since the departure of Rear Admiral (Retired) Janice Hamby in 2018 and then Acting Chancellor Tom Wingfield departing to serve as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Cyber Policy.
Lewis had been serving as the Acting Chancellor for about two years, in addition to her duties as Dean of Faculty and Academic Programs. Lewis has been part of the College for over a decade, and played an integral role in establishing the College's very successful Master's Degree program as well as many other initiatives. During her remarks following the announcement, Lewis thanked the CIC team and NDU leadership for their day to day support of the mission and each other.
