CIC Research and Support Internship

Background

The College of Information and Cyberspace (CIC) is one of National Defense University’s five component colleges. CIC educates joint warfighters, national security leaders, and the cyber workforce on the cyber domain and information environment to lead, advise, and advance national and global security. CIC is committed to helping students become better leaders and decision-makers through innovative distance and resident education. Areas of teaching include cyber leadership, cyber security, cyber intelligence, program management, emerging and disruptive technologies, and CIO and CFO competencies.

Position Description

Interns at CIC support faculty and the college’s mission in unclassified areas that may include research, administrative support, program development and execution, event organization, publication development, communications, and other events such as meetings, conferences, and symposia. Interns will have the opportunity to assist faculty with ongoing and new research to support publications and teaching. Past projects include building an elective on artificial intelligence, creating SOPs and other procedural methods for an annual cybersecurity conference, and researching and creating an information paper to establish the nation’s premier institution on the study of information warfare.

CIC offers interns the opportunity to interact with high-level government and military officials, academics, and policymakers and participate in discussions about key national security issues. The interagency environment at CIC allows interns to meet people from all branches of military service, several government agencies, and international military offices. Interns experience first-hand how these agencies work together to protect our national security and get to explore the career opportunities in government service.

Interns should expect to work 20-40 hours per week. Internships are unpaid positions and in-person only. Internships run from mid-June to mid-August.

CIC's strongest interns have been creative thinkers with intellectual integrity, an appreciation for collaboration, and a true learning mindset.
